Many years ago the giant Haymon lived as a peaceful knight
in the Inn valley. One day there appeared the cruel and quarrelsome
giant Thyrsus from the Seefeld high plateau and destroyed Haymon’s
castle. A terrible fight broke out in which Haymon slew the giant
Thyrsus with his sword. His blood gushed out over the plateau, seeped
away and formed a lake of “Thyrus’s blood” that to this day is being
mined as medicinal ichtyol and “Tiroler Steinöl” (rock oil). But the
giant Haymon, instead of rejoicing over his victory, felt great remorse
for his deed and founded the Wilten monastery in Innsbruck where he
lived out the rest of his life as a simple monk.
